Kris + Kate | Engaged | Colonial Park | New Jersey

Kris and Kate engagement session was in Colonial Park on a truly beautiful spring evening. I love when sessions are personalized … from bringing books to read to one another, or a guitar to serenade – and in this case….wait for it… a bike; needless to say I was giddy! We started off in my favorite spot at the park – it’s the perfect location for all that is romance and kisses during sunset hour.

I always love this part… I ask when and how did you get engaged; hearing the versions of both is always so much fun. “Kris and I got engaged on Christmas Eve at his parents’ house. For Kris’s family, Christmas Eve is the main event – everyone gets together, has dinner, and opens their gifts then. Kris and I decided that we’d bring one gift for each other to open that night. I wasn’t a big fan of the idea and tried to persuade him to wait until Christmas Day for our gifts (I’m a sucker for the excitement of Christmas morning!). Nonetheless, Kris prevailed on this decision. When I saw my gift, I had no idea what it was – it was a HUGE box…and when I secretly shook it when Kris wasn’t looking, it was light and nothing moved! I was convinced he wrapped an empty box as a joke. I was surely wrong! At his parents’ house, everyone opened gifts, and Kris and I went last. As I opened the first box, I found another wrapped box inside…and then another…and another (he must have spent A LOT of time wrapping)…finally the last box had a ring box opened with my ring glistening and Kris was already on one knee. It was PERFECT! We were surrounded by family and so so much love. I am so grateful to be marrying such a sweet, thoughtful man…and to be joining such a wonderful family”.

“We got engaged at my parents house. It was Christmas Eve dinner. I wrapped her ring in a small box and put it in a bigger box and a bigger box and a bigger box. She had to unwrap 5 boxes to get to the ring. After she opened the last box, I got down on one knee and popped the question. It was a surprise and no one except for my sister and her husband knew”.

What did you love most about your engagement shoot? “You! You made the session so fun, and I LOVE your personality. Without a doubt, you love what you do and that made the experience that much better for us. You made us feel at ease….especially because we both aren’t super keen on being photographed”.

“I loved how comfortable Meely made me feel at the photo session. I wasn’t expecting to have that much fun”.

Kris: “Communication is key. Build a strong foundation in your relationship. Make sure to have a good time along the way. Life is short, don’t forget to appreciate each other and the small things”.

Kate: “We have two dogs – Brody and Bentley. Kris and I like to make voices for them and have conversations. Is that weird? Probably…but it’s hysterical. That’s definitely one of my favorite things”.

Kris: “Going on adventures, spending time with our Beagles, work out, eat, and Netflix”!
